Francis Doherty may be regretting his unprovoked attack on a fellow pub-goer last February, as he will be going to jail for a year, This Is Staffordshire reports.

Under the influence of alcohol, the 26-year-old made lewd comments to a woman before striking her husband, David Campbell, in the face with his glass. The blows left Campbell with a cut near his eyes. Although he did not need stitches, he has been left with minor facial scars.

Defense attorney Peter McCartney asked Judge Granville Styler to suspend any prison sentence, due to the fact that Doherty was remorseful and acting as his mother's primary caregiver. However, the judge refused.

"At the end of the day, this was a serious matter. You were too drunk to remember what you did," he told Doherty, quoted by the news source. "Without any provocation at all, you attacked him with a beer glass."

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that in 37 percent of violent victimizations, the offenders had been using either drugs or alcohol.

Silicone gel sheeting may be a useful scar treatment method for victims who have sustained marks from these incidents.
