Man left with scar and emotional trauma following knife attack
A UK man has been left with a permanent facial scar after being attacked by another man with a knife, The Mayo News reports.
Stephen Ruane has been sentenced for causing serious harm to David Keane by cutting his face with the blade of a stanley knife. His friend, David Gibbons, has also been sentenced for kicking Keane in the face.
Both men had been implicated in a past accident in which they kicked and punched another man under the influence of alcohol.
"You are the aggressor and by definition, a troublemaker," Judge Tony Hunt told Ruane, quoted by the news source.
Along with a prolonged scar healing process, Keane reported that he found it difficult to smile and that the tear ducts in his right eye were not working properly. He also cited emotional trauma and said that he was troubled whenever people would ask him about his wound. He has now given up his job as a doorman and has sought counseling to help him cope with the aftermath of the incident.
According to the Office for National Statistics, approximately four out of five crime and assault offenders are male.
