House fire that scarred five-year-old reportedly prevents her from expressing emotions
When she was just eight months old, Faisal Al Maliki's daughter, Mahasen, survived a house fire that left her with permanent scars on her head and hand, Emirates 247 News reports.
Now five years old, Mahasen still shows signs of the damage that was done to her scalp and face. The child can neither laugh nor cry, and according to her father, the hospital in which she received treatment for her burns may be to blame.
"She cannot express her happiness or sadness," Maliki stated, quoted by the news source. "My daughter was subject to a medical error while she stayed at the hospital. I have demanded an investigation into her case."
However, sources at King Fahd Hospital have denied his charges, saying that Mahasen has been suffering from such symptoms since birth.
According to the Burn Survivor Resource Center, pediatric burn injuries are common among children in the U.S. An estimated 2.4 million incidents are reported each year.
Those who have been left with marks may opt for silicone gel sheeting as a useful scar treatment method that can reduce the appearance of these blemishes.
