Glassing attack leaves man with 110 stitches and permanent scars
A man has been left with severe facial injuries after being attacked in a Stafford, UK, pub, the Staffordshire Newsletter reports.
Under the influence of alcohol, 28-year-old Richard Stretton shouted in a crowded pub that he was ready for a fight. When Shawn Hunt attempted to calm him down, Stretton's friend, Christopher Allott, grabbed him and thrust a glass into his face.
Hunt was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent two and a half hours of surgery. Doctors inserted 110 stitches into his face to repair the wounds that were left by Allott's glass, and said that he was lucky not to have lost an eye.
Allott, who pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, received a jail sentence of 40 months. Meanwhile, Stretton was ordered to perform unpaid community service and pay a fine for his part in the altercation.
According to the Marin Institute, alcohol availability is closely linked to violent assaults. Neighborhoods in which there are more bars and liquor stores per capita tend to experience more assaults.
A useful scar treatment method for those who have sustained injuries may be silicone ointment, which can help reduce these blemishes.
