A UK girl has been left with permanent injuries after tripping and impaling herself on a spiked chain fence, according to the Herts Advertiser.

Maisie London, 11, was returning a library book in Harpenden when she fell onto a sharp fence that tore her jeans and pierced her thigh. She was rushed to Luton and Dunstable Hospital, where she received eight stitches. However, these did not hold and she was forced to return for an additional eight stitches.

The pain that she experienced forced her to take time off from school, and she told the news source that her scar made her feel self-conscious.

"She's a young girl and girls are very conscious of their legs," said Debi London, the victim's mother, quoted by the source. "This scar is going to show up in the summer when she wears shorts or skirts, and I'm angry on her behalf."

According to Yale New Haven Health, each year, one out of every four children under the age of 14 sustains injuries that are serious enough to require medical attention.

Victims who are self-conscious about the appearance of their scars may find the use of silicone ointment to be helpful in reducing these marks.
