Forced to eat his own ear, tortured man is glad to be alive

Xeragel® (XSO-797) - $16.30A man from Newbridge, Ireland, has sustained severe injuries after being tortured by a gang of thugs and forced to eat part of his own ear, the Irish Independent reports.
Brendan Higginbotham, 21, was abducted and taken to a vacant property, where he was tied up and repeatedly beaten with a hammer. The attackers cut off part of his ear with a knife, which they then forced him to eat.
The victim received 14 stitches to repair the cuts on his face and his head had to be stapled after it was split open during the incident. He also required plastic surgery to repair his ear.
"I just want to get on with my life," Higginbotham told the news source. "I just want to recover and get back to keeping myself busy. I'm glad I'm alive."
He added that he neither knew the thugs' identities nor their reasons for targeting him.
The 2009 National Crime Victimization Survey, which was conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, reveals that violent crime victimizations were experienced by 17 in 1,000 people over the age of 12.
For those who have sustained injuries from such incidents, some scars may be treated with silicone ointment, which can help lessen their appearance.
