Dangerous run-in with drunk driver leaves policeman with severe scars
A policeman in Queensland, Australia recently sustained severe scars due to a dangerous encounter with a drunk driver, according to Cairns.com.au.
The officer, who asked the news provider that he remain anonymous, suffered significant injuries after being dragged more than 150 feet by an intoxicated man who was trying to dodge a breath test.
Chief Superintendent Brent Carter said that the policeman was "gutsy" and that the incident would not hinder the force's battle against drunk drivers in any way.
"That incident will not change our focus at all," he said, quoted by the news source. "Our resolve is to keep as many people alive this year on our roads as possible."
He added that individuals who plan their nights out and assign designated drivers may help ensure road safety during the holiday season.
The Transport Accident Commission reports that the majority of all drivers and motorcyclists killed on Australian roads in 2009 were heavily intoxicated and had blood alcohol levels that were more than three times higher than the legal limit.
Drinking and driving increases the likelihood of injury for all individuals on the road. Those who have scars from these incidents may opt for silicone gel sheeting to reduce the appearance of any unsightly marks.
