This past winter, Lydia Lassila wowed crowds with her double-twisting, triple somersault at the Vancouver Olympics and eventually took home the gold, but she still has scars from her past attempt at a similar maneuver, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, Lassila went out on the ice with a knee that had already been reconstructed due to an ACL injury. When she tried to make a second jump, her leg collapsed under the pressure.

Before the injury, she had been the favored figure skater for the gold medal that year, and the award had been just within reach.

She says that the scars now remind her what she had to go through to win the gold medal in 2010.

"I have a lot of scars on my body now. I definitely won't have a career as a swimsuit model," she told the news provider.

Those who have suffered a scar due to a sports injury can often feel self-conscious about the marks. Applying silicone gel sheeting or ointment to a wounded area on the body can help the scars disappear and become a thing of the past.
