Burn victim's scars are a reminder of the healing that is still needed
Robert Bishop Smith was playing with a lighter on his way to school one morning in December 2008 when he accidentally set himself on fire.
Over a year and a half later, the 10-year-old is settling back into his life, while still needing to undergo some more skin graft procedures, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Smith, along with several other burn victims, took part in a recent picnic to thank and honor those who work in the burn unit of the University Medical Center in Nevada.
While most of the burn victims have finished all of the medical procedures needed, some still have visible scars left from the traumatic events they experienced.
Though survivors are often in good spirits and thankful they're still alive, breakthroughs in scar treatment may help those who are seeking to mask the reminders of those painful events.
Silicone gel sheeting and ointments are the latest treatments that may help diminish the appearance of scars. These new scar healing products may help mask any reminders of the painful event.
