Thirteen-year-old Bud Laska put his life on the line to help his neighbor put out a grease fire. The burn scars he received as a result from the hot grease cover his chest and arms, but Laska is recovering quite well, WALB reports.

Laska's best friend and next-door neighbor, Katelyn Kilbury, was cooking when the grease fire broke out. Unsure of how to put it out, she reportedly ran to the teenager for help. He brought a fire extinguisher and put the blaze out, but the fire returned after he extinguished the initial flames.

"It started up again, this time above the stove and burned out the cabinets. I went back in there, took my shirt off and wrapped it around my hand, grabbed the pot and went to throw it in the yard. It got on me and my brother and her," Laska told the news outlet.

As his scars begin to fade, Laska is being called a hero by his friends and family, but to him he was just helping his best friend.
