A British soldier who survived Iraq without a scratch found himself struggling to survive after allegedly being attacked on a night out at the bars, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Paddy McQuaid, who spent eight years in the army, underwent hours of surgery in the hospital after experiencing severe head injuries from a brick attack. Doctors had to remove fragments of brick and skull from his brain. The 25-year-old was left with a permanent scar on his forehead and 15 stitches on the back of his head.

"I've done two tours of Iraq based in Basra, but I was never injured," he told the news source. "This is the worst injury I have ever had. I had a depressed fracture of the skull. I had a depressed fracture of the skull. I had bruising on the brain."

Although one man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, police are still investigating the incident and searching for witnesses who had been present at the nightclub.

Excessive alcohol intake may often be connected with violence. A Marin Institute survey found that in approximately 45 percent of cases of interpersonal violence, the participants had been drinking.

Individuals who are left with scars from such incidents may turn to the use of silicone gel sheeting to reduce the appearance of their blemishes.
