Boy scars 30 percent of body after accidentally setting himself on fire
A five-year-old boy has sustained permanent burn scars all over his body after an accident in the kitchen, the UK Daily Mirror reports.
Logan Rendell was set on fire after he climbed onto the kitchen stove, suffering burns to more than 30 percent of his body. He had been trying to reach some snacks in the cupboard, and his parents suspect that he accidentally turned on the stove while doing so.
The boy's father, Dan Rendell, said that his wife ran down and saw the boy "engulfed in flames. His pajamas were new … they went up in flames really quickly. Denise could not believe what she was seeing," he told the news source. "There was Logan in flames before her eyes."
Logan was stripped of his pajamas and rushed to the hospital, where he endured four major operations, during which doctors repaired his flesh through a series of skin grafts. In total, the little boy received 24 general anesthetics to carry out the procedures and to change his bandages, due to the amount of pain he experienced.
According to the Burn Survivor Resource Center, approximately 2.4 million burn injuries are reported each year in the U.S.
For those who sustain scars from these incidents, silicone ointment may be a viable method of reducing the appearance of these marks.
