Plastic surgery remains popular during recession

During the recession, Americans have been forced to cut back on everything from designer clothes to magazine subscriptions. But according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), elective plastic surgery and treatments were still sought by many.

A recent AACS report revealed that more than 17 million Americans decided to have cosmetic surgery during 2009, paying about $21 billion in total, FoodConsumer.org reports.

Despite the recession, cosmetic surgeries and treatments were only down about 2 percent compared to the previous year.

Dr Mark Berman, president of the AACS, told the news source, "As the economy recovers slowly but surely, we are seeing patients come back and feel better about doing some things for themselves that maybe they'd been putting off for a while."

In the past year, the most commonly pursued procedure was breast augmentation, totaling about 312,000 surgeries, followed closely by liposuction procedures.

As the prevalence of breast augmentation and tummy tuck procedures remains high, patients are likely to seek out scar treatment techniques that minimize the appearance of their surgery scars.

An emerging trend, silicone gel sheeting has proven successful in concealing scars from both breast augmentation and liposuction operations.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19662607-ADNFCR
