Scar healing the number one cosmetic concern in Washington, DC
New Englanders are known for their charming colloquialisms, affinity for clam chowder and ability to hibernate throughout the long winter. But does the Northeast have anything to do with nose jobs?
According to a survey on the cosmetic industry consumer review site RealSelf.com, a person's city or regional affiliation may have some bearing on the type of plastic surgery or cosmetic service they prefer, MSNBC.com reports.
For instance, New Englanders searched for rhinoplasty surgeries 55 percent more than those in other areas, and Southerners were 30 percent more likely to research facelifts and related procedures.
"Some of it is related to weather," Dr Michael McGuire, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons told the news source.
He added that in the South, outdoor activities may make people more likely to consider body contouring surgeries than northerners.
Scar healing and removal is the number one concern among Washington, DC, residents, reports the news source.
In the budding scar treatment industry, doctors are finding that applying silicone gel sheeting one to two weeks after surgery can help reduce the scar tissue as the body heals.
